The Girl Scout Leadership Experience

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place.  Even at the youngest ages of Girl Scouting, girls can gain leadership skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. The Girl Scout focus on leadership shows girls that they are leaders right now in their everyday lives, and they will continue to be leaders as they get older. We believe that when women are
leaders in our world, positive results are achieved—and our world needs more positive results.  Below are several resources to learn about the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

GSUSA has come out with a new electronic resource to help inform volunteers and parents about the structure and benefits of this great leadership model. Click here to visit this awesome new resource!

Important Things to Know

  • Leaders/Advisors/Troops/Groups should continue to move forward on everything your girls are planning and earning.
  • The Girl Scout Leadership Experience was launched by GSUSA in the Fall.  We have until 2010 to completely transition.
  • This will be a flexible process!  Want to be Daisy’s for two years – Do it!  Want to bridge up based on the former program age levels –Do it!  You & your girls decide together!
  • Currently, the dues summary registration form asks for “one grade level that represents the majority of the girls that are registering now”.  These categories have been changed to reflect the new grade levels for the 2008/2009 membership year.  This will not limit you to those program materials and multi-grade level troops are encouraged to stay together.
  • The new resources are incredible!  They are exactly what you have requested and they make it easier to plan meetings!  You’ll use current resources along with the new ones. It will take until 2010 to develop all the new program materials and revise the current ones to reflect the new model.  The new program materials are now available in our store.
  • GSUSA has published an update to Safety-Wise that gives you girl/adult ratios by grade level, along with other updates.  Go to our publications web page for a copy.
