A Girl Scout Troop Leader serves as an adult friend, teacher and role model to a group of girls. Leaders provide Girl Scout program in keeping with the mission of Girl Scouting. The term is for one year (renewable) and the time commitment is flexible. Troops meet at a time convenient for the girls and adults involved in the troop, which can be weekly, every other week or (typically for older girls) on a monthly basis. An eager team of local volunteers and council staff support troop leaders throughout the Girl Scout year.
Innovative Programs
- Creating Her Own Individual Challenges and Experiences - C.H.O.I.C.E. is focused on middle and high school aged girls who may not be involved in other organizations and may be having difficulty reaching their full potential. Leaders are recruited from local colleges and communities to provide positive female role models who can relate readily to the issues and concerns of teenage girls.
- Hispanic Initiative - This initiative is dedicated to supporting Latina/Hispanic adult and girl participation in Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington. We are looking for volunteers from all backgrounds. Bilingual ability is especially needed.
- Bilingual Liaison
Serve the needs of Spanish-speaking Girl Scouts - Bilingual Translator
Provide bilingual support to Troop Leaders and other volunteers - Guest Speaker
- Discovery Program– These programs may be one time sessions or multiple consecutive sessions, focusing on various topics from healthy living to science, to literacy. Help offer girls the opportunity to experience the power of Girl Scouting!
- Girls Night Out - A three hour event held monthly on Friday evenings at the Eugene Service Center for non-member girls who would like to sample Girl Scouting and individually registered girl members who want to enhance their Girl Scouting experience. Help facilitate crafts and games that all share a common monthly theme such as "Science Magic," "She & Me Bingo Night" and "Wildlife Friends."
- Girl Scouts Beyond Bars – Work with girls whose mothers are incarcerated in a Girl Scout troop setting. Troop meetings are held in a correctional facility. Volunteers are needed to transport girls to the facility, coordinate other volunteers and lead fun programs. Interest or experience with incarcerated women and at-risk girls. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to pass Girl Scout and State Corrections Department background checks.
- Science, Tech, Engineering, Math – Helping to engage girls in technology is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow’s workforce. Only 20% of engineering program students are female and only half of that number are currently employed as engineers! Help Girl Scouts facilitate a variety of programs aimed at bridging this gender gap and offering girls real world experience.
