Volunteer Policies and Procedures
Important Notice Concerning First-aid Policies
On page 51 of the Volunteer Policies and Procedures document, it states “For trips of a day or more, at least one currently certified first-aider is present”. Moving forward we will only be requiring a first aider to be present on trips more than four hours (this is consistent with the Notice of Intent - Troop Travel form). In summary:
Camping, land sports, water activities, other activities = follow activity check point requirements in Safety-Wise pages 78-135.
Travel = Level one first aider needed for any trip over four hours. Follow any additional requirements listed under travel in Safety-Wise pages 44-60.
Regular troop meetings = a first aider is not required but is recommended. A first aid kit must be present.
Volunteer Responsibilities
All members of Girl Scouts of the USA are also responsible for the Policies in the Blue Book of Basic Documents (Leader’s Digest), and for the recommended guidelines outlined in Safety-Wise. These two documents are published by Girl Scouts of the USA and are used throughout the national organization.
In addition, all federal, state and local laws must be followed. In some cases, Policies are more strict than the law.
