Camp Cleawox on-site Open House and 90th Anniversary

Bring your family and friends and spend the day learning about the history of camp, what’s new at camp, sing camp songs and even give kayaking, canoeing or archery a try. End the day cooking s’mores and reminiscing about your favorite memories of Camp Cleawox.

  Classic Camp

Classic Camp, available at all three overnight camps, is the traditional overnight camp experience! During each session, campers will enjoy a variety of activities including swimming, campfires, cookouts, paddling on the lake, leadership games, art projects, songs and more. Campers will individually select two focus areas to explore during their camp session. This approach allows campers to get to know their instructors, progressively build skills and gain confidence each day.

New this year- three focus areas will be offered during every Classic Camp session: STEM in the Outdoors, Art in the Outdoors and Adventure in the Outdoors. Other focus areas will vary by week based on the unique offerings from summer camp staff. Last year’s focus areas included sign language, calligraphy, orienteering, chair building, paddle boarding, synchronized swimming and more. This year’s offerings are sure to be just as exciting!

 Friends and Family Camp

Experience classic camp as a troop or family group, with these unique programs:

Core Camp

Troop adventure meets overnight camp—it’s the best of both worlds! Girls and their troop leaders attend camp together participating in all of the classic camp activities as a troop like swimming, arts and crafts, boating and campfires. Girls entering grades 4 and above can also choose to try archery and camp-specific activities like the climbing wall, mountain biking or kayaking! Core Camp is available for girls entering grades 1-12.

She and Me

Experience the wonder of camp with your girl! Make memories as you enjoy staff-led swimming, boating, crafts, nature activities and campfires. She and Me is a great way to try overnight camp for the first time. Available for girls entering grades 1-12 with a female adult.

August 2-4 Cost: $160/person


 Specialty Camp

With specialty camp, girls focus on a particular skill, expedition or experience in addition to the classic camp activities. Review the options below with your camper to see if a specialty camp is right for her!

Ocean Explorers

The Pacific Ocean is just down the road from Camp Cleawox—come see what it has to offer! Visit tide pools at Heceta Head Lighthouse and learn about the marine life in them, hike up sand dunes at Honeyman State Park and take a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. At camp, you’ll get to try archery, boating, swimming, art projects and campfires. Trained staff lead you in all activities. Girls plan other activities as a group, such as choosing a place on camp for an overnight under the stars. Discover the magic of Camp Cleawox and the Oregon Coast with the Ocean Explorers program!

Art Extravaganza

This isn’t your basic arts and crafts! Over the week, you will plan and create art projects including beading, scrapbooking, stamp carving, yarn crafts, pottery and more. Girl planning allows your group to decide what projects to create. Counselors teach you methods and techniques while honoring your own artistic eye. You’ll also get to try archery, boating, swimming campfires and a variety of outdoor skills while at camp. Girls plan additional activities as a group, such as choosing a place on camp for an overnight under the stars. Come explore your creative side with the lake and sand dunes as your muse!

Board the Coast

Discover the excitement of the sand dunes and water at Camp Cleawox! In addition to traditional camp activities, you’ll experience three exciting sports: sand boarding, windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding. Learn to use a sand board on the dunes at Honeyman State Park, and windsurf and paddleboard around the gorgeous Cleawox Lake. Back at camp, you’ll explore archery, boating, swimming, art projects, campfires and a variety of outdoor skills. Girls plan additional activities as a group, such as choosing a place on camp for an overnight under the stars. You’ll have a blast as you Board the Coast at Camp Cleawox!

Ride the Coast

Discover the amazing sand dunes and ocean right next to Camp Cleawox during this exciting week! In addition to traditional camp activities, you’ll experience three special activities: horseback riding on the beach, sand boarding and a dune buggy ride! Ride a horse along the beach with C&M Stables, sand board the dunes of Honeyman State Park with trained camp staff and take a group ride on a giant dune buggy with Sandland Adventures in Florence. Back at camp, you’ll explore archery, boating, swimming, art projects, campfires and a variety of outdoor skills. Girls plan additional activities as a group, such as choosing a place on camp for an overnight under the stars. Fall in love with the Oregon Coast with the Ride the Coast program!

 Leadership Programs

Leadership programs are available for girls entering grades 9-12. These progression-based opportunities deepen older girls’ understanding of what leadership development means and gets them excited about mentoring others. Is your girl interested in trying a leadership camp? Have your girl thoughtfully and honestly complete these  Leadership Readiness Questions. Then review the options below with your camper to see if a leadership program is right for her.

Entering Grades 9-12

Outdoor Leader

Take the first step into camp leadership! This 11 day program will help you discover your leadership style as you learn about group dynamics, community problem solving and what it means to be a camp leader. You’ll get to help lead activities for younger girl groups while still participating in all the fun camp activities like archery, boating, swimming, art projects, campfires and overnights. You even get to spend a weekend at camp! Completing this program is an excellent step to becoming a Counselor-in-Training. Discover your leadership potential as an Outdoor Leader!

Entering Grades 10-12

Counselor-in-Training 

Want to be a camp counselor? Get a taste of what it’s like to be one as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT)! Over almost four weeks, you’ll live with your fellow CITs developing the skills and experience needed to make your dream a reality! Your counselors will teach you how to plan and facilitate activities, how to encourage teamwork and personal growth and what directors are looking for when hiring camp staff. You will hone your outdoor skills and plan adventures with your group, all while serving as role models to younger campers. After completing a CIT program, you are eligible to work at overnight camp the following summer!

Due to limited space, high demand for CIT programs and a desire to provide the highest quality leadership experience, there is an application process for this session.

Entering Grades 11-12 or Entering College

Junior Counselor

Work at camp! Get paid as you implement your leadership skills and work toward becoming a unit counselor or wrangler. Work in all aspects of camp including sleeping units, program areas, and assisting in the camp kitchen and administrative office. Available for girls entering grades 11–12 or entering college.
