Latest News from the CRC . . .
The CRC met in Winema Council on March 15. The main topic of discussion
was the proposed bylaws for the new council. The proposed bylaws will
be available to all existing councils for discussion at their annual meetings
and through other methods, to provide feedback to the CRC prior to finalizing
the bylaws. The CEO Search continues with initial interviews in May. The
Transition Nominating Committee is busy looking for the best board members
for our new council and expect to have a slate by July. Service Delivery
has added a host of "kindred groups" to make sure they cover
all the important aspects of providing program to girls and volunteers.
The next meeting of the CRC will be April 9th via Centra.
Realignment Overview
With a diverse membership of 3.6 million girls,
Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated
solely to girls. Over the last two years, GSUSA has conducted a national
comprehensive evaluation of its councils and programs that has shown that
significant enhancements need to be made to increase membership, improve
the volunteer system and update the Girl Scout program model….please
help!
Individual council boundaries across the country, last revised more than
40 years ago, have also been analyzed. This analysis indicated that populations
have shifted, economic centers have moved, and transportation and immigration
patterns have altered the makeup of many of the local communities where
girls are served. As a result, The National
Board of Directors, working in consultation with demographers and local
Girl Scout councils, approved a map of council jurisdictions in August
2006 to better reflect current and future population trends.
Across the country, 312 Girl Scout councils are now merging into 109 councils
to streamline infrastructures, increase resources, improve services to
girls at the local level with focus on increasing diversity and relevant
programming, and enhance volunteer recruitment and training. Oregon councils
are actively participating in this process. Our merger will be completed
by October 2008.
The focus of the council realignment is just one part of a process to
strengthen the Girl Scout movement as a whole. And, the council realignment
process, combined with the implementation of the new program model and
the new volunteer service model, will result in a better overall Girl
Scout program for our girls and our volunteers.
