Applications to be a Girl Board Member with Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington are due Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m.!
Attention Girl Scouts in grades 9, 10, and 11! Have you been a Girl Scout for at least two years? Would you like to be an advocate for all Girl Scouts, and help to guide our Girl Scout council in fulfilling its mission? Would you like to see how a board of directors functions? If you answered “YES!” then we encourage you to apply to be a Girl Board Member!
Serving as a Girl Board Member is a great opportunity to strengthen
and expand your leadership skills and gain valuable experience to add
to applications for college, vocational school, internships and
more.
Our current bylaws permit the selection by the
council membership of up to two Girl Scout Seniors or Ambassadors who
serve a one (1) year term as a non-voting member of our board of
directors. Girl Board Members bring a valued perspective to board
discussion and decisions, and serve as ambassadors to encourage girl
participation in Girl Scouting. Girl Board Members will participate in
board meetings, but do not have voting rights. They are invited to
join board committee meetings and other events as appropriate. The
time commitment is approximately three hours per month.
How to Apply
Nominations will be made by the
Board Development Committee in April for approval by our council
delegates at the Annual Meeting on April 29, 2023, so the time to
apply is now! If you’re interested, please fully complete the Girl
Board Member Application and email it with subject line
"GIRL BOARD APPLICATION" to severs@girlscoutsosw.org.
We must receive your application no later than Thursday, March 23,
2023, at 4 p.m. for it to be considered by the Board Development
Committee for election in April.
More Information
Coming to board
meetings prepared and ready to engage is an important
responsibility. Currently, the board holds two regular meetings on
Monday nights at our headquarters on Barbur Boulevard, generally in
the fall and winter, and three regular meetings on Saturdays in
April, May and the fall, often at a Girl Scout camp or another
facility. At most meetings, there is an opportunity to participate
by Zoom, although in-person attendance is preferable—and more
satisfying. All girl board members are entrusted with maintaining
confidentiality. You will be responsible for your own transportation arrangements.
