Miss Black Oregon USA Talented Teen, Skylar Pierce-Smith
Skylar Pierce-Smith is the reigning Miss Black Oregon USA Talented Teen. Skylar is sixteen years old and a Junior at Grant High School. She has been dancing since she was a little girl, and is a currently part of The Grant Varsity Cheer Squad, and was a member of the Grant Varsity Gendrill Dance Team during her Freshman and Sophomore years at Grant. Skylar loves to travel and has visited Mexico, Germany, Holland, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. Some of her hobbies include bringing inner beauty outward by dabbling in fashion, hair, and make-up. Skylar supports Beyond Differences. During her reign this year, Skylar will be promoting an anti-bullying campaign.  Every student should feel accepted, included, and valued by their peers. Beyond Differences works directly with middle and high school students, on campuses and online, to help them promote social inclusivity within their schools. Skylar promoted Be the One Day at Grant High school in April 2016. Be The One is an initiative of Beyond Differences, a teen-led organization dedicated to ending social isolation. Teens are inviting other teens to "Be The One" to reach out to someone new, to be thoughtful, to spread the word that kindness is cool. Skylar feels that she can be a true inspiration to other young women, as she is a perfect example of a young woman of color breaking barriers in Oregon and becoming a great dancer.
