Adults must have taken a Wilderness Hiking Course and Outdoor Skills Training to register for this event.

Take the next step in your outdoor progression with a one-night overnight basic backpacking course! Discover how to make yourself comfortable in the wild and learn the essentials for backpacking. Gain hands-on experience with hiking, tent setup, meal prep, bathrooms, and more. Take this Troop Outdoor Adventure Readiness Self-Assessment before singing up.


The Backpacking 101 Course is a prerequisite for Backpacking 102 Course, which will be offered on July 13 and 14, 2024.

 

This course is a part of the Whispering Winds June Training Palooza and occurs at the same time as some other trainings that are being offered. Attendees should view this Training Palooza chart to confirm that they are not signing up for trainings that conflict with one another. If you've accidentally double-booked your time, please email answers@girlscoutsosw.org and we can help rearrange your training schedule. 

Participant Information

This is a Girl Scout activity for registered members only.
This is an adults-only training.

Price
$37.50adult

Food
All supplies for meals will be included. Participants will work together to practice and prepare meals on backpacking stoves. Please email answers@girlscoutsosw.org if you have dietary restrictions.

Supplies
Please note this entire event is outside and to prepare for all weather.

Backpacking equipment is not required. This course will help you understand what to look for when purchasing/using backpacking equipment in the future.

Supplies required include: tent, sleeping bag, and pad. Full list of required supplies will be sent upon registration closing. If you need help aquiring camping supplies please consider renting or borrowing items from friends, family and fellow Girl Scouts. Email answers@girlscoutsosw.org if you need resources for how to rent camping equipment.

Attending as a troop/group? Follow the safety ratios listed in Volunteer Essentials. Note: attending with any girl other than your own qualifies you as a Girl Scout group that needs to follow ratio requirements. 

 

The Backpacking 101 Course is a prerequisite for the Backpacking 102 Course, which will be offered on July 13 and 14, 2024. The Backpacking 102 trip will be planned during the Backpacking 101 workshop. Registration for Backpacking 102 will open after Backpacking 101.

Registration, Cancellation & Refund Information
Registration for this activity is hosted by Girl Scouts - Please email answers@girlscoutsosw.org on or before the registration deadline for assistance.

Registration closes on May 19. Request for cancellation/refund or transfer must be submitted via email to answers@girlscoutsosw.org by this date. A refund less the council administrative fee is available.

GSOSW reserves the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If GSOSW cancels an event, registrants will be notified and offered a full refund.
