Join us for this one-day Wilderness Hiking Course! Gain the skills
needed to explore the outdoors and learn how to lead others safely
outside. Spend the morning in the classroom and the afternoon on the
trail learning about safety, proper gear and equipment, the Leave No
Trace ethic, and how to build independence in yourself and other Girl
Scouts. You will create and take home three outdoor kits to help you
on your future adventures. Take the first step in your journey to
becoming a wilderness hiking champion!
Objectives/Outcomes of this training:
- Gain a foundation for outdoor exploration
- Learn
Girl Scout hiking protocol
- Develop the the skills and
knowledge necessary to day hike safely
- Learn about
suggested gear and how to help Girl Scouts learn to use it well
- Encourage development of self-reliance, self-responsibility,
independence and good judgment,
- Support Girl Scouts to
lead, take charge, and be self-sufficient and safe in the
wilderness
Supplies:
- A personal backpack/daypack - packed with any supplies you
would take for a day hike
- Appropriate clothing for both
inside and outside (layers) - rain is always a possibility!
- Comfortable outside shoes
- Backpacking/hiking chair

- Notepad and pen/pencil
- Sack lunch,
personal snacks, and a water bottle

Registration, Cancellation & Refund Information
- Registration closes on 9/7/25.
- Request for
cancellation must be submitted via email to answers@gsosw.org
by this date in order to receive a refund less this training's
cancellation fee ($12).
- No refunds will be given after the
registration deadline.
- GSOSW reserves the right to cancel
an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would
make the event non-viable. If GSOSW cancels an event, registrants
will be notified and offered a full refund.
