When Buggy learned that the unavailability of menstrual supplies in areas of rural Uganda often results in girls missing school, she wanted to help. She began by working to understand the needs of the communities she wanted to help, then designed a reusable pad that could be made from donated fabric. Next, she and her team sewed over 1,000 pads while increasing their knowledge of the history of feminine hygiene products and discussing the stigma associated with periods. The pads were donated to an organization with contacts in Uganda, and Buggy provided the pattern and sewing instructions to her local Girl Scout service unit so outreach could continue.
